Made of the magic fabric Pochampally Silk Saris

For Pochampally saris, silk yarn is first tied & dyed. While weaving, the un-dyed parts of the yarns make unexpected geometric patterns- as if my magic. Pochampally silks are also the formal uniform of Air India stewardesses

Pochampally Silk Saris

The Pochampally era began in the 1970s, from a small town of the same name in present day Telangana.  The weaving process for these saris involves individually colouring and designing each thread before collectively entwining them to create a fabric with mesmerising patterns. As legend has it, the village head man sent two young boys to Bangalore to learn the art of weaving silk saris. They returned with knowledge of the ikkat style of dyeing which was then employed in the creation of what came to be recognized as the Pochampally silk saree.

The distinctiveness of these saris comes from their trademark geometric patterns in brilliant and bold colours. The motifs employed are largely abstract and include modernist designs in a variety of vivid hues. Light, lustrous and enchantingly lovely, it comes as no surprise that these saris are an instant favourite at wedding related festivities.
