Mysore Silk Saris

Established in 1912 by the Maharaja of Mysore, the silk weaving plant celebrated a hundred years of excellence recently. Famous for its rich texture, striking colours and elegance, the silk sarees of Mysore exude an undeniable classic appeal.

The combination of pure mulberry silk and skilled hand weaving gives the saree a distinctive shimmer and a permanence of lustre that lends it a royal vibe. They are usually woven in rich shades, such as royal purples, blood reds, and forest greens. Custom dictates that the intricate motifs on the borders and pallu contain subtle images borrowed from nature- such as birds, fruit and leaves-  and be embroidered using only the purest zari.

These sarees carry the imprint of tradition, making them the perfect attire on special occasions. Traditionally, they are worn with ornate gold jewellery that serves to accentuate the glitter of the zari and the softness of the fabric’s sheen.
