Kanjivaram Silk Saris
According to one folklore, 400 years ago weavers came and settled in the small temple town of Kanchipuram in Tamil Nadu and the Kanjiwaram saris were born. Woven from pure mulberry silk and gold zari, these saris stand out in every way. With hand-picked silk from Hosur, Coimbatore and Dharmavaram entwined with zari native to Surat, Gujarat, these saris are a reflection of a tradition hundreds of years old. Known for their luxuriously intricate woven pallus and their lustre, durability and finish, Kanjiwaram saris are a class apart. The motifs used in Kaniwaram sarees can be recognized as scenes from the Mahabharata and Ramayana, depictions of Gods and Goddesses, nature as well as temple architecture. These saris can be found in colours ranging from bright or earthy reds, saffrons and henna to peacock blues, turquoise and ochre with bright, intricate trimmings.
An original Kanjiwaram sari woven with love and care can take up to 30 days of workmanship. With its startling colours and textures, this piece of clothing reflects high status and classic choice of the wearer.
