Gadwal Pure Silk&Cotton Saris
Gadwal Silk&Cotton saris originate from the Mahbubnagar district in Andhra Pradesh. The yarn used to make these sarees is a combination of pure silk and pure cotton, making the Gadwal sari suitable for both warm and cold climates and giving it its characteristic light and airy feel. The silk for the pallu is selected from Bangalore and the zari for the trimmings from Surat, Gujrat. The cotton body and the silk border and pallu of the sari are interlocked in a special technique known as ‘Kupadam’. Gadwal sarees are so light that legend has it, they can be folded into a matchbox.
The pallu and border are adorned by motifs and cultural patterns influenced by traditional stone and wood carvings of the Gadwa area such as Hansa (mythical swan), Youli (stylized lion), etc. Available in a variety of colours and patterns, their rich and exquisite look makes them suitable for any kind of occasion.
